US launches fresh wave of strikes on Iran after Hormuz attacks

The United States on Tuesday launched new wave of strikes on Iran in response to attacks against three commercial vessels sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The US military said it “completed” a new round of strikes on Iran, hitting over 80 targets, while also reimposing sanctions on Iranian oil sales.

This was disclosed by the US Central Command in a post on X, stating that “the US strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz.”

The Command said it would “impose heavy costs for targeting and attacking commercial shipping.”

“Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire,” the post added.

Despite a ceasefire taking effect on April 8, there have been sporadic violence in the Gulf region, including attacks on ships by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).

US forces had launched a series of air raids late last month on Iranian military infrastructures, which the US said were in response to attacks on oil vessels sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, making the recent strikes the first by the US military since its last aerial attacks.
