Trump says he is banning CNN, MS NOW, Politico from White House over ‘fake news’
US president Donald Trump said on Friday that he was banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House over what he called “fake news”.
The president threatened that more of such news outlets would receive similar prohibition.
Trump had long criticised several media outlets over false reportage and their knack to deliberately twist the truth in favour of the Left.
He has maintained that these news outlets deliberately distort information and disinform the public about his office, programs and policies, in order to cast him in a negative light.
He had in the past filed several lawsuits against news organizations, while calling out individual reporters in person or over social media.
In February 2025, Trump prohibited journalists of the Associated Press (AP) from covering the Oval Office, Air Force One and other events too small for a full press corps. The AP filed a suit in response and the case is ongoing.
Trump had also taken legal action against other news outlets, such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and the BBC.
The president however did not provide details on how the ban would be implemented in his social media announcement made in relation to the ban.
Trump wrote on Truth Social:
“I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW… and Politico… from the White House as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!
“Media outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump administration, or the United States of America.”
“Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow,” he added.
