Trump halts strikes on Iran subject to reaching deal ‘rapidly’
US President Donald Trump has halted a planned attack on Iran, subject to Iran reaching a deal quickly with the US. The decision according to the president was based on a request from Iran and other middle eastern countries.
Trump made the disclosure in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, noting that the US was locked and loaded to resume strikes on Tehran in the absence of a deal.
“The U.S.A. is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II. Despite this, we have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to,” Trump said.
The US president stated that any deal reached would include the complete opening of the Hormuz Strait and a halt to Iran’s nuclear ambition.
“This would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.
“Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL,” he wrote.
Trump added that the Israel was in consonance with the development.
“The Country of Israel joins me in this commitment. Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he added.
This comes after Saudi Arabia state media reported that Prince Mohammed bin Salman pushed for a deescalation of tensions in the Middle East. Since the announcement, no strikes have been reported from either sides.
The US State Department had earlier cautioned Americans in the Middle East on Saturday, to depart the region, while warning that those in the region should “be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions.”
