Shettima to represent Tinubu at 81st UN General Assembly
Vice-president Kashim Shettima will represent Nigeria’s president Bola Tinubu at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) holding in New York, United States.
This was disclosed on Sunday in a statement by the senior special assistant to the president on media and communications (office of the vice-president) Stanley Nkwocha.
Nkwocha said Shettima would lead a high-level delegation comprising Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara, Zamfara State governor Dauda Lawal, ministers and other senior government functionaries.
The 81st UNGA holding under the theme, “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all,” would hold from September 22 to 28, 2026.
The vice-president is expected to deliver a statement on the country’s position and priorities on major global issues at the General Assembly.
Shettima would participate in high-level meetings of strategic importance to Nigeria and the African continent, as well as join other world leaders at the reception for heads of delegation.
The statement added that the vice president would also partake in bilateral meetings with leaders of other countries, international organisations and development partners on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
