AFCON 2027 Qualifier: Nigeria beat Madagascar 2-1
Super Eagles of Nigeria have secured a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match.
Nigeria played host to Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Friday.
Debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored in both halves to overturn Madagascar’s lone goal lead.
Madagascar took an early lead in the 16th minute of the game with Emmanuel Kari’s goal. Nigeria however equalized before half-time with Ilenikhena’s goal in the first minute of added time.
Further pressure from the Super Eagles gave Usor a decisive 65th minute goal to earn the Nigerian side a win.
Nigeria sit second with 3 points in Group L, as the team prepare to face Guinea-Bissau in an away match on September 29, while Madagascar host Tanzania.
Guinea-Bissau currently top the group with 3 points, ahead of Nigeria on goal difference.
