‘My enemies want to use insecurity to get rid of me’, Tinubu says
Nigeria’s president Bola Tinubu has said that his political enemies are fueling the embers of insecurity in the country in order to get rid of him as president.
He stressed that despite the rising security challenges in the country, he would work hard and campaign for his second tenure.
Tinubu made the remarks while receiving the Governor of Plateau State Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and other stakeholders from the state, noting that the agenda of his political adversaries was being aided by those using the current situation against his administration.
“You are playing to the hand of agents, including my own enemies, who want to use insecurity to get rid of me.
“I’m a very stubborn politician. I just refuse to go. And I will campaign for my second term,” he said.
Tinubu’s remarks come amid concerns over recent attacks and kidnapping incidents by gunmen, worsening the spate of insecurity in several parts of the country.
This has led to verbal attacks by opposition figures and civil society groups who have accused the government of not doing much to tackle the terror activities and security challenges faced by the nation.
US President Donald Trump had in October 2025 designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, accusing the Nigerian Government of not taking drastic steps in stemming Christian killings and terror activities in the country.
The Nigerian government had however denied the allegation, debunking any systematic persecution of Christians, noting instead that terrorist organizations in the country have been targeting Christians and Muslims alike.
Trump had threatened to place sanctions on Nigeria by stopping all aids and assistance to the country, as well as taking military action, if the government does not move fast in tackling terrorism and protecting Christians.
Recently, the Federal Government of Nigeria published the names of 48 individuals and entities allegedly funding terrorism across the country, an action it considered a step towards the eradication of insurgency and disruption of its network of financiers.
As the curtain falls gradually on president Tinubu’s tenure, the race towards his re-election has commenced.
James Faleke who represents vcIkeja Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, on Tuesday, picked up the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on behalf of President Tinubu in view of the 2027 general election, thereby commencing Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
