US, Iran reach peace deal as Trump orders removal of naval blockade of Hormuz Strait

The United States has reached a long-awaited peace deal with Iran to end the lingering crisis in the Middle East.

The US-Israeli war with Iran which began on February 28 was earlier halted through a ceasefire agreement.

The ceasefire was however truncated recently after Iran downed a US Apache helicopter around the Strait of Hormuz, prompting a two-day retaliatory military strikes against Iran by the US.

Israel had also resumed hostilities with Iran, targeting several military infrastructure in the war-ravaged country, after the latter fire several ballistic missiles towards northern Israel, as a retaliatory measure for its attack against Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The resumed hostilities came in the wake of a peace deal between the United States and Iran, with US president Donald Trump threatening to take Kharg Island should Iran refuse to sign the peace deal, while also cautioning Israel to cease fire.

Pakistani prime minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday posted on X that a peace deal “has been REACHED” between the US and Iran, stating that an official signing ceremony would be held on June 19 in Switzerland.

Sharif later thanked the US and Iran “for finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict.”

“Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon,” Sharif wrote, while appreciating leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey for their support in the mediation effort.

Trump posting on Truth Social, stated: “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete.

“I hereby fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz and, simultaneously herewith, authorise the immediate removal of the United States naval blockade. Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

There is still no official confirmation from Tehran as at the time of filing this report, as it had earlier vowed to retaliate against Israel for striking its proxy militia group Hezbollah in the Beirut suburbs.

The war which began in late February with US-Israeli strikes on Iran had led to a drastic increase in global oil price, as commercial vessels were unable to sail through the Strait of Hormuz which serves as a sea route to at least 20 percent of global oil shipments.
