Tinubu commences three-week vacation, to stop first in London
Nigeria’s president Bola Tinubu has commenced a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
“President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday for Europe to begin a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave. His first stop will be London, United Kingdom.
“President Tinubu is expected to return home after the working vacation to join the hectic campaign for the January 2027 election,” the statement read.
The vacation comes ahead of the January 2027 general election, as the president is expected to join the 2027 campaign on his return.
According to the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), campaigns for presidential and National Assembly positions commenced August 19, while that of governorship and state houses of assembly positions would kick off September 9.
This would enable political parties and candidates commence rallies and other campaign activities.
Tinubu who faces a competitive contest involving several prominent opposition figures, is seeking re-election on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
While former vice-president Atiku Abubakar is contesting under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso are bearing the flag of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The president’s vacation comes after that of vice-president Kashim Shettima who recently went on a similar 12-day break on August 6, resuming duties on August 18.
On August 29 the vice-president departed Abuja for Luanda, Angola, to represent Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly.
