Security agents fire at #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protesters in FCT
Security operatives have forcefully dispersed the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protesters in the Maitama Area of Abuja, led by Omoyele Sowore. The sounds of gunshots made the protesters scamper to safety.
The protesters who convened around the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) headquarters in Maitama, were heard chanting “Free Nnamdi Kanu Now” when the sounds of gunshots reverberated.
The protesters had gathered to demand the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu.
They were however confronted with heavy security presence who fired multiple tear gas canisters and gunshots into the air, forcing the demonstrators to disperse.
Though it was not clear if any of the protesters sustained any injuries, Sowore, and many others were seen fleeing the scene as the air thickened with smoke.
