Plane crash in Ghana kills Defence, Environment Ministers, six others
A military helicopter crash in Ghana’s southern Ashanti region on Wednesday, has claimed the lives of Ghana’s Defence and Environment Ministers and six others.
Aboard the crashed chopper were Ghana’s Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, three other passengers and three crew members.
This was after Ghana’s Armed Forces announced earlier on Wednesday that it had lost contact with a Z9 helicopter that was flying from Accra to Obuasi.
Other victims of the crash include, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Ghana’s acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate and Samuel Sarpong, the Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress.
The helicopter’s crew comprised, squadron leader Peter Bafemi Anala,
Sgt. Ernest Addo Mensah, and flying officer Manean Twum-Ampadu.
The incident which has sent shockwaves across the country has left Ghanaian citizens in mourning.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah who spoke in a video, noted that the incident was a national tragedy, while directing that national flags be flown half mast.
