Phyna loses sister after accident involving Dangote truck
Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Josephine Otabor known professionally as Phyna, who was involved in an accident with a Dangote cement truck has passed on according to reports.
Her death was announced on Sunday by the family through a statement by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, saying Ruth passed on to glory on Sunday, at about 6:30 a.m.
The statement read: “With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs.
“The family is presently grieving and will appreciate to be given a private moment to mourn the departed. The funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course.”
The incident which resulted in her death occurred on Wednesday August 13, 2025, six days after Ms Otabor graduated from Auchi Polytechnic.
The accident caused severe damage to her leg leading to amputation. She received treatment at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State before she was moved to a hospital in Lagos.
Dangote Group acknowledged the incident, stating that its team visited the scene, engaged with law enforcement, and met the family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, pledging full medical support and compensation in line with its welfare policy.
Phyna who demanded that her sister be flown abroad for further treatment and care, had raised earlier concerns about Dangote group abandoning her sister in the said Hospital in Lagos.
