NUPENG suspends nationwide strike

The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended its two-day strike after a meeting with the Dangote refinery team on Tuesday.

According to reports, the National President of NUPENG, Williams Akporeha, stated that the Dangote refinery team led by Sayyu Dantata, has agreed to unionise its drivers.

ā€œWe have suspended the strike. The Dangote refinery has agreed to unionise its drivers. We signed an agreement,ā€ Akporeha said, adding that the meeting was convened by the Department of State Services.

Recall that NUPENG had continued with their nationwide strike after failure to reach an agreement with Dangote Refinery over their demand to unionize the company’s staff in a meeting convened by the Federal Government on Monday.

The industrial action was reported to have impacted some states negatively, following the shutdown of filling stations in several parts of the country, which left many drivers and commuters stranded and businesses inoperative.
