Joy Ogah replaces Shettima as Vice President for one day

The Vice President of Nigeria Kashim Shettima has vacated his seat to allow Joy Ogah, a teenager, sit over the affairs of his office for one day, in demonstration of mentorship for both the girl-child and youngsters in the country.

This, according to the Vice President, was to reaffirm the Tinubu-led administration’s commitment to gender equality and girl-child education.

The Vice President who hosted a delegation from PLAN International, led by its Director of Programme, Quality, and Innovation, Helen Idiong on Monday in his office, assured stakeholders and development partners of the President’s commitment to promoting girl-child education across the country.

ā€œIn President Bola Tinubu, you have an ally you can believe in and invest your trust in,ā€ Shettima said in an address to the delegation.

Shetima described Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as a quintessence of an empowered girl-child who flourished into a great leader, both as a Senator and as a First Lady who has championed the cause of girl-child education and empowerment.

ā€œI want to assure you, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that this government is gender-friendly. We believe in inclusivity. We cannot disenfranchise half of our population and expect to grow as a nation,ā€ the Vice President added.

Shettima further vacated his seat as Vice President for Miss Joy Ogah for a day.

Miss Joy Ogah addressing the nation from the seat of the Vice President, called on the government, development partners and all stakeholders to promote the education and rights of the girl-child, among other demands, while expressing concerns about the number of out of school children in the country, sixty percent of whom are females.

ā€œWe must invest in education that is safe and inclusive for every child in Nigeria. When girls are protected, peace becomes possible.

ā€œI may be the Vice President for a day, but the struggles I represent cannot end in a day. They must continue in our policies, our classrooms, our conversations, and our budgets,ā€ Ogah said.
