Fresh Plateau attack: Gunmen kill pastor, wife, two children
A pastor, together with his wife and two children were reportedly killed on Sunday night by gunmen in a fresh attack in Gako Village, Riyom local government area of Plateau State.
The victims, Reverend Ayuba Choji, his wife Chundung Ayuba, and their two children, Cyril and Endurance Ayuba, were reportedly killed when the village was stormed by the attackers at about 11 p.m.
The gunmen who indiscriminately opened fire on the community, caused panic among residents, forcing many to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
The Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association, Rwang Tengwong, said the attackers operated in coordinated groups, targeting communities and livelihoods.
He said the assailants often split during operations; some destroying farmlands, others attacking residents, with another group barricading roads to prevent escape or intervention.
“The way these attacks are carried out shows clear coordination. While some attack residents, others are busy destroying farms and blocking roads to prevent any form of rescue,” he said.
He further noted that large portions of farmland in Kassa, Barkin Ladi local government area, were destroyed within the last 48 hours, which according to him has worsened the hardship experienced by farmers in the area.
While security agencies are yet to respond to the incident as at the time of filing this report, the latest killings have led to heightened tension within the village and neighboring communities.
Residents are calling on security agencies and relevant authorities to intervene and halt the recurring attacks in Plateau State, as a matter of urgency.
