Edo Queens beat Ampem Darkoa 4-1 on penalties to win WAFU-B title, qualify for Champions League 

Edo Queens defeated Ghanaian Ampem Darkoa 4-1 in penalty shootout, following a 2-2 draw in regulation time, to win the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League regional title.

The final match which held Saturday in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, saw a late dramatic comeback by the Nigerian champions.

Edo Queens came from behind twice to force a 2-2 draw in regulation time before emerging victorious in a decisive 4-1 penalty shootout to lift the regional trophy.

The victory has also secured the Nigerian champions a place in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

Ampem Darkoa took an early lead two minutes after kick-off which Edo Queens equalized almost immediately, leaving the scoreline 1-1.

Ampem Darkoa restored their lead in the 74th minute, while Edo Queens secured a late comeback goal in the 94th minute to level the scoreline.

The match proceeded into penalty shootout, with Edo Queens converting four of their penalties and Ampem Darkoa having just one successful attempt, leaving the penalty scoreline 4-1 in favour of Edo Queens.

The Nigerian champions have now secured their place in the forthcoming CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
