7,726 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices will be deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the forthcoming by-elections, holding on Saturday August 16, 2025.

According to an INEC official, the commission would be deploying a total of 7,726 BVAS machines for the by-elections which will cover two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, and nine state assembly seats, across 12 states of the federation.

The constituencies where elections have been scheduled to hold are; Anambra South, Edo Central Senatorial Districts; Ovia South West/Ovia South East (Edo), Babura/Garki (Jigawa), Chikun/Kajuru (Kaduna), Ibadan North (Oyo), and Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North (Ogun) Federal Constituencies.

The nine state Assembly seats are Ganye (Adamawa), Onitsha North I (Anambra), Dekina/Okura (Kogi), Zaria Kewaye and Basawa (Kaduna), Bagwai/Shanono (Kano), Karim Lamido I (Taraba), Kauran Namoda South (Zamfara) and Mariga (Niger),

A total of 30,451 officials will be deployed to conduct elections for 3,553,659 registered voters across 32 local government areas, 356 wards, and 6,987 polling units.

However, security and legals issues have excluded Talata Mafara South (Zamfara State) and Khana II (Rivers State) from the by-elections, as INEC is also set to conduct re-run elections on Saturday in two previously disrupted constituencies; Ghari/Tsanyawa (Kano State) and Enugu South I (Enugu State).

Candidates contesting for various positions have also signed peace accords in both Edo and Oyo States. While that of Oyo was signed on Wednesday at the State’s INEC headquarters in Ibadan, that of Edo will be holding on Thursday August 14, at the Edo State Police Command Headquarters in Benin City, based on invitation by the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to all candidates, in a proactive move to ensure a credible and peaceful electoral outcome.
