Buhari finally buried at home in favourite spot
The remains of the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has finally been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
As part of the obsequies, several military gunshots were fired and the Nigerian flag used to cover the corpse was removed, folded and handed over to the late former President’s family, before he was finally interred.
The late President who died in London on Sunday at the age of 82 due to an undisclosed illness, was buried in his favourite spot at his compound in Daura, Katsina State.
Islamic clerics led by the Chief Imam of Daura performed the Janazah prayers. The event which witnessed a mammoth crowd, saw the attendance of leaders both past and present, as well as politicians, industrialists, and the creme de la creme of the society.
The corpse of the late former President was accompanied from London by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and family members.
The Nigerian government had declared Tuesday a public holiday to honour the late Buhari, a former army general, and one of only two Nigerians who have led the country as both a military leader and a democratically elected President.
