Bayelsa Gov Diri, House Speaker, members resign from PDP
The Governor of Bayelsa State Senator Douye Diri has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This was contained in a Facebook post by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, which said the Governor resigned from the PDP with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all the PDP lawmakers in the legislative chamber.
The Governor’s alleged move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been under speculation for months now, though no defection to any party was mentioned in the post.
Reports say the Governor made the announcement in the State Government House, Yenogoa, during the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
In the Facebook post by Alabrah, the Governor is quoted to have said: āToday, I wish to address a matter that has been the subject of speculation and debate across party lines in Bayelsa State and beyond. We allowed the speculations. But while it lasted, we were also doing our consultation.
āAfter extensive consultation, today the 15th day of October 2025, I wish to formally notify you that in keeping with the extant protocols, I Governor Douye Diri, do hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
āI am not resigning alone as you can see. I am here with Mr. Speaker, Deputy Speaker and all the members of our party (in the Assembly) who are with me on this.
āSo, today, I have formally resigned from the PDP for very obvious reasons.ā
The post also mentioned the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, to have said that he, his deputy, other PDP, APGA and APC members of the Assembly aligned with the Governorās decision to leave the party.
