Baltasar Engonga jailed for eight years
A court in Equatorial Guinea has convicted and sentenced Baltasar Ebang Engonga to eight years imprisonment for embezzlement.
Egonga gained notoriety in November 2024 after his sex escapades with countless women, including wives of other government officials, became a subject of social media scrutiny.
His viral sex tapes, some of them filmed at his Finance Ministry office, were released on social media, even as his embezzlement case lingered.
According to the Supreme Court Press Director Hilario Mitogo via a WhatsApp message to reporters, Engonga was convicted by the Bioko Provincial Tribunal of diverting money claimed as professional travel expenses for personal use.
He was accused of embezzling thousands of dollars in the Central African State, alongside five other senior officials.
According to Mitogo, the Provincial Court handed Engonga an eight-year sentence and a $220,000 fine.
