Abducted teacher in Oyo beheaded by gunmen
Michael Oyedokun, One of the kidnapped teachers of Community High School in Oyo State, Nigeria, has been killed by his abductors.
The bandits released a video of his gruesome murder on Sunday, hence raising concerns over the safety of the remaining victims.
Gunmen had invaded Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday May 15, abducting the principal, alongside other teachers and students.
While the murder of Oyedokun has thrown the community into mourning, families of the abducted victims have continued to call on security agencies to intensify rescue operations for those still in captivity.
Special Adviser on Media to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Suleimon Olanrewaju, said in a statement on Monday, that the Governor commiserates with the family of the victim, as the government was exploring all approaches to rescue the remaining abductees, adding that six suspects in the kidnap were already in custody.
He called for patience from relatives of the victims, religious bodies and other interested parties in the course of the rescue operations, noting that some security personnel have already lost their lives and some others wounded, during a daring rescue effort.
“So, please, there may not be quick fixes, but we will continue to endeavour to push ourselves to the limit to resolve this quickly.
“What we know right now is that seven teachers in all were abducted. And, unfortunately, we got a video this morning that one of the teachers, I understand, the mathematics teacher, was killed by the terrorists,” he said.
“Well, from the information available from the Commissioner of Police, about six individuals have been arrested within the locality.
“Some of them, we believe, are perhaps informants or people running logistics for the terrorists.
“Also, three individuals of interest have been arrested by another security outfit within the state,” he added.
