Put past election aside, focus on governance, Ize-Iyamu admonishes Okpebholo, probe past administration, Oshiomhole urges

While the legal tussles surrounding the past gubernatorial election in Edo State may be over, it would seem that the dust generated in the wake of the election  lingers still, as some political forces keep gunning for the jugular of the immediate past administration in the State.

Two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Sen. Adams Oshiomhole seem to disagree on the post election and tribunal actions by the incumbent Governor.

While Ize-Iyamu is suing for a more harmonious interaction with all political actors across the divide, Oshiomole has called for a thorough probe of financial deals made by the previous administration.

In a letter addressed to the Governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, Ize-Iyamu called on the Governor to put aside the past election and focus on the higher task of building a greater and more prosperous State while calling on all citizens to rally behind the current administration, irrespective of political affiliation.

“Your Excellency, the time has come for all of us, regardless of political affiliation, to put the election behind us, heal old wounds and focus on the higher task of rebuilding a greater Edo State. I therefore appeal to all citizens, particularly those in the opposition, to rally around your administration as you lead our beloved State forward”, Ize Iyamu appealed.

In contrast however, Oshiomhole called on the Governor to launch investigations into the financial deals of the previous administration, particularly as they relate to the Radisson Hotel and road projects.

He made the call on Thursday, at an event celebrating Okpebholo’s victory at the Supreme Court.

“You now have the time to look into that hotel about which they say Edo money, in tens of billions of naira, was spent, and now they claim it’s just a minority shareholding.

“You have time to revisit all those roads that were built at the worst costs compared to the ones I built and that are still there,” Oshiomhole said.

Citizens of the state await the Governor’s actions; whether to pursue a more peaceful and harmonious path now that the election litigations are over, or to continue another round of legal tussles with the previous administration.
