US launches third night of strikes on Iran, as Trump reimposes naval blockade of Iranian ports
The United States has launched a wave of strikes on Iran for the third night, as Iranian media reported explosions in the port city of Bandar Abbas and the islands of Kish, Qeshm and Abu Musa.
Meanwhile US president Donald Trump has informed Congress of the resumption of military action against Tehran.
Tehran also launched strikes at US regional allies, saying it struck and disabled two tankers.
UAE government confirmed that Iranian missiles hit its tankers in Oman’s part of the Strait, resulting in the death of a crew member.
Trump has however reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports, as no commercial vessels would be allowed in and out of Iran. Vessels in and out of other gulf countries would be allowed passage with US providing security.
Trump said the US would remain guardian of the Strait, imposing 20 percent tariffs on vessels as reimbursements for US security provision in the commercial water way.
US Central Command has said it would resume its naval blockade of Iranian ports at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
Global oil prices have risen considerably since Iran broke the ceasefire deal by firing on ships in the Strait and US launching a retaliatory aerial assaults on Iran for firing on vessels.
