FG raises allowances for civil servants
The Federal Government has approved a raise in peculiar allowances and other welfare benefits for civil servants, aimed at boosting the morale and improving the take-home pay of civil servants.
The increase is coming amid rising living costs and growing calls from labour unions for improved workers’ welfare, which in turn would aid efficiency and more productivity in public service.
The announcement was made on Friday by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, while briefing newsmen.
Workers under both the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), are affected by the review.
Walson-Jack stated that the revision is structured to reflect across all grade levels and cadres, meaningfully impacting the earnings of junior and senior officers.
She noted that allowances contained in the Public Service Rules have been revised, including an upward review of duty tour allowance (DTA), estacode, book allowance, with DTAs for civil servants attending approved training programmes increased by 100 percent.
“Even if you are based in Abuja and attend training within Abuja, you are entitled to full DTA,” she stated.
The development also saw retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) exiting the service with 100 percent of total annual emoluments, in addition to their pension, effective January 2026.
The operationalisation of the Employee Compensation Scheme, which financially protect workers who suffer job-related injuries or death, was equally confirmed by the Federal Government.
