Tinubu sacks finance, housing ministers, appoints substitutes
In a minor cabinet reshuffle, Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has sacked the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, which are key changes in the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
This was contained in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, cited on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, announcing the sack of both ministers.
The former Finance Minister was directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been promoted to the role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, having served previously as Minister of State in the same ministry.
The memo stated that Muttaqha Rabe Darma had been named ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.
All handover processes have been mandated to be completed on or before April 23, 2026.
Speaking on the reshuffle, Akume said the changes are geared towards enhancing the President’s economic policies.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.
He added that the President who acted in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), appreciated the outgoing ministers for their services, wishing them well in their future endeavours.
