King Charles hosts President Trump at Windsor
The US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump were hosted by the British Monarch King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Wednesday in an occasion termed the largest military ceremonial welcome for a state visit in living memory, alongside a full array of British pageantry from carriage procession to lavish banquet.
During his speech at the State banquet Trump said: “This is truly one of the highest honors of my life. Such respect for you and such respect for your country.”
Trump further praised the U.S.-British relationship. “To coin the phrase special relationship, but seen from American eyes, the word ‘special’ does not begin to do it justice. We’re joined by history and fate, by love and language, and by transcending ties of culture, tradition, ancestry and destiny,” he said.
In his remarks, King Charles highlighted the close ties between both countries with emphasis on trade, conflict and the environment.
Trump and Melania had earlier joined King Charles, his wife Queen Camilla and other royals and dignitaries for a carriage procession, with the route lined by 1,300 British service personnel.
The US President and his wife also viewed historical items from the Royal Collection relating to the U.S., before paying visit to St George’s Chapel where he laid a wreath on the tomb of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Trump is currently on a state visit to the UK. Thursday activities are expected to focus on geopolitics and trade as the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosts Trump at his Chequers country residence.
