Rivers Senator Barinada Mpigi dies at 64

Senator Barinada Mpigi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works has passed on at the age of 64.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Oloye Akin Alabi, confirmed the development in a tribute post on his X handle on Thursday.

“Good night my dear friend. Rest in Peace, Senator Mpigi Barinada. Sen Mpigi represented Rivers South East in the Senate.He was the Chairman, Senate Commitee on Works,” Alabi wrote.

Mpigi who passed away on Thursday, was born on June 23, 1961.

He represented the South-East senatorial district of Rivers State in the red chamber until his death.

The late Senator was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2011 and was reelected to a second term in 2016 representing the federal constituency of Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo.

He was elected in 2019 as the senator representing Rivers South-East senatorial district on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He was also appointed Chairman of a joint Senate committee which was set up to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta area.
