President Tinubu departs for Türkiye on state visit

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has departed for the Republic of Türkiye on a state visit, as part of measures to deepen bilateral ties between both countries.

This was made known in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who said the visit was geared towards strengthening cordial relations between the two countries.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu departs Abuja today for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye. The visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between the two countries and exploring further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation,” he wrote.

The President was shown at the airport prior to his departure, in a video, accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, among other members of his entourage.

In a statement released earlier on Sunday January 5 by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was disclosed that President Tinubu would be departing Abuja for the Republic of Türkiye on Monday.

The statement read that “both countries will engage in strategic political and diplomatic discussions on shared values in finance, communication, trade and investment,” during the visit.

“The agenda will include meetings between high-ranking officials of both nations and the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation and protocol, among others,” the statement added.

It also said that a business forum involving investors from both countries to explore areas of interest during the visit, would also be held.
