The Nigerian Police Command in Edo State has arrested a serving police officer and three other civilians for allegedly engaging in armed robbery, extortion and acts of brutality in Benin City.

The Command’s spokeman, CSP Moses Yamu said in a statement on Sunday, that the arrest was in response to a viral video where some policemen were accused by a victim of abduction, harassment and forcefully possessing his belongings.

The Police public relations officer stated that Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika ordered an immediate investigation and arrest of the suspects.

Yamu stated: “On 15th August 2025, operatives of the Ugbowo Surveillance Team successfully intercepted the suspects with a silver coloured Toyota Yaris and other incriminating items.”

He noted that a serving Police Inspector and three other civilian accomplices were arrested for alleged extortion and harassment.

Quoting the State Commissioner of Police, Yamu remarked: “The command has zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of office, or misconduct within the Force. There will be no hiding place for rogue elements within the police.

“Any officer caught engaging in extortion, brutality, or corruption will be dismissed, arrested, and prosecuted.”

The Police spokeman further urged the victim in the viral video and members of the public to help the investigation and the police in dispensing justice by coming forward with credible information, while reiterating the command’s commitment to the security of lives and property as well as its determination to restore public trust and uphold the integrity of the Force.
