47 suspected internet fraudsters arrested in Edo, rifle, cartridges recovered
47 suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Edo State.
This was disclosed in a statement on the agency’s official X handle (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
According to the financial crimes watchdog, a Pump Action rifle and live cartridges were recovered from one of the suspects.
The anti-graft agency said that the arrests were based on credible intelligence, linking the suspects to fraudulent schemes.
The statement read in part: “Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested 47 suspected internet fraudsters in Edo State with a Pump Action rifle and live cartridges, recovered from one of them.
“Their arrest on Friday, August 15, 2025 followed credible intelligence that linked them to fraudulent internet activities.”
The statement further said that six vehicles, mobile phones and laptop computers were recovered from the suspects, stating that the suspects would be charged once investigations are concluded.
