Trump TV launches, after networks halt White House coverage over ban on CNN, others
The White House has launched a 24-hour streaming channel featuring footage of US president Donald Trump and activities of his administration.
This comes after White House TV pool members protested the ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico, by suspending coverage of president Trump.
The new service known as “TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station,” started streaming on Monday through the White House website and YouTube.
Viewers are offered access to presidential speeches, administration announcements, videos and previously recorded highlights.
The White House said the channel would provide real-time updates and bring together the administration’s “biggest moments” in a single platform.
The launch came after White House television pool members, including FOX News, ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC, announced their suspension of coverage of US president Donald Trump, for banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from covering the White House over what he called “fake news”.
The TV pool members have long taken turns covering the president and sharing footage. CNN whose turn it was to cover the White House on Monday was however unable to, due to the ban.
Meanwhile CNN, MS NOW and Politico, the affected news agencies, had earlier announced plans to file a lawsuit against Trump over the ban.
The launch of TRUMP TV gives the White House a direct platform for distributing official administration events without relying on the White House TV pool.
The White House said the service is a 24-hour stream, which would feature major presidential remarks, administration videos and highlights, providing viewers with a centralised source for footage of Trump and his administration.
