13 suspected kidnappers arrested, 9 victims rescued in August – Edo CP
Edo State police commissioner, Patrick Daaor, said 13 suspected kidnappers were arrested and 9 kidnapped victims rescued, in the month of August.
He made the disclosure at the end-of-month press conference for the month of August, in Benin City.
Among the arrests also made for the month under review were 14 armed robbery and violent crimes suspects, 19 suspected cultists, 6 suspected human traffickers and 5 suspects linked to store breaking and stealing.
8 vehicles were recovered in connection with suspected criminal activities, while 12 suspects were also arrested and arraigned in connection with sexual and gender-based violence.
The arrest of five suspected members of a kidnapping and banditry network operating along the Auchi-Okene axis was considered a breakthrough for the Command during the period.
Daaor said the suspects were arrested in Niger State on August 30, following the abduction of Mohammed Tasiu Imokhe and his wife at Jattu, Etsako West local government area of Edo State, on August 8, adding that the suspects had confessed to the abduction and other kidnapping operations in Edo and Kogi states.
The commissioner said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang, as two fabricated AK-47 rifles, a pump-action rifle, six magazines and 200 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition have been recovered, based on information obtained from the suspects.
Daaor assured residents of the Command’s commitment to a safe Edo and intelligence-led operations against criminal activities in the state, while stressing on the importance of community policing and partnership, urging members of the public to continually provide the police with credible and timely information.
He further applauded sister security agencies, hunters, forest guards and community partners for their support.
