Charge me, VDM dares Nigerian police, says he would present evidence in court
Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), said he would not submit the evidence of his allegations of security personnel colluding with kidnappers and bandits, to the Nigeria Police Force.
In an Instagram video posted on Thursday, VDM said he would only present his evidence in court.
“I’m not going to be giving the police my evidence. Why would I do that? I would be charged to court, and I would turn down the evidence in court,” he said.
VDM had alleged that some police officers share information about travellers with kidnappers and bandits at checkpoints.
The police had considered the allegation serious, rejecting it as unsubstantiated and damaging to the institution, noting that allegations of such magnitude required credible evidence.
The Force subsequently invited VDM to submit any evidence in his possession supporting his claim.
VDM however said he was prepared to face the authorities but would not disclose his evidence.
“So when I get to your office, you charge me to court. I can go to court on that same day. My lawyers are on ground,” he said.
He further faulted security personnel over sustained kidnapping, banditry and terrorism in the country.
“It is the police people that aid insecurity. It is the military men that benefit from insecurity. That’s why it can never stop.
“How much is your budget to battle insecurity? How much is your budget? Go and look at your budget and tell me why we still have bandits and terrorists kidnapping people.”
He further blamed Nigerians for condemning security agencies over insecurity but defending them over allegations of misconduct.
“I’m proud of myself that right in their faces I said what I had to say and to tell them that the insecurity going on in Nigeria, it is aided by them. I stand by my words,” he added.
VDM however acknowledged the harrowing conditions under which many police officers operate, thereby calling for improved welfare.
“There is no welfare for the Nigerian police. If you want Nigeria’s security to be tightened, you have to take care of our policemen. Take care of them,” he said.
