Edo Assembly speaker Agbebaku resigns, Idiaye assumes position
Lawmaker representing Akoko Edo Constituency I, Yekini Idiaye, has been elected as the new speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, following the resignation of former speaker, Blessing Agbebaku.
Agbebaku’s resignation was formally acknowledged by the House during Monday’s plenary, presided over by the deputy speaker, Osamwonyi Atu.
The deputy speaker announced receipt of Agbebaku’s resignation letter, before Idiaye was nominated for the position by the member representing Esan South-East constituency Sunday Ojiezele, and seconded by Eric Okaka, the member representing Owan East constituency.
Idiaye took the oath-of-office which was administered by the clerk, and thereafter assumed leadership of the House.

A letter from the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking changes in the leadership of the majority caucus was also acknowledged and considered by the House.
Ojiezele Osezua, representing Esan South-East constituency, was nominated in the letter as majority leader, with Ojie Inegbebor, representing Igueben constituency, nominated for the deputy majority leader position.
