Osun election: 1.9 million PVCs collected, INEC says
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said over 1.9 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were collected in Osun ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by INEC’s national commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna.
According to him, “Out of the total of 2,339,233 registered voters in the State, 1,906,390 PVCs, representing 81.50 per cent, have been collected. The remaining 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, have been safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in line with the Commission’s established practice.
“Similarly, it should be noted that some persons with damaged, defaced, or lost PVCs applied for replacement of their cards. A total of 6,101 among those who applied printed downloadable copies of their PVCs,” INEC stated.
The commission noted that a table containing the total number of PVCs collected, polling unit by polling unit, had been published on its website, while assuring political parties and other stakeholders of a credible, transparent, and inclusive election on Saturday August 15, 2026.
With less than a day to the election, the Nigeria Police is making last-minute preparations, deploying thousands of personnel across the 30 local government areas of the state.
A minimum of four officers have been assigned to each of the 3,673 polling units, excluding those from other security agencies, according to sources.
