Argentina beat stubborn Switzerland 3-1 to qualify for World Cup semifinals

Argentina emerged victorious against tough Switzerland side in a keenly contested quarter-final match in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The defending champions with their latest 3-1 victory have now proceeded to the semifinals of the tournament to face the English side who defeated Norway 2-1 yesterday.

The match which held in the early hours of Sunday, saw Argentina hitting the net twice in the second half of extra time to beat 10-man Switzerland, changing the scoreline to 3-1 from an earlier 1-1 scoreline that almost proceeded into penalties.

Switzerland forced the game into extra time despite being reduced to 10 men in the 72nd minute, after Breel Embolo received a second yellow card for simulation following a VAR review.

The second yellow card earned Embolo an automatic red card, with the referee reversing his initial booking for Leandro Paredes for the challenge, after the VAR review.

Julian Alvarez struck late in the second half of extra time, before Lautaro Martinez completed the victory in stoppage time.

Mac Allister had scored an earlier goal for Argentina 10 minutes into the game, with Dan Ndoye equalizing for the Switz side in the 67th minute.
