France beat Morocco 2-0 to secure spot in World Cup semifinals
France has booked a spot at the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after beating Morocco 2-0 on Tuesday in a quarter-final match, which held at the Gillette Stadium outside Boston.
Both goals came during the second half of the game, with Kylian Mbappe delivering the lead goal in the 60th minute of the match, before Ousmane Dembele netted another at the 66th minute, securing the team a clinical 2-0 win and a place in the semifinals.
The 2018 champions have now been sent into a last-four showdown against either Spain or Belgium in Arlington, Texas on Tuesday.
The Moroccans were unable to dash France’s hopes of reaching a third consecutive World Cup final.
The French dominated the game as the Moroccan side could not register a single shot on goal until an 83rd-minute free-kick by Azzedine Ounahi which was parried away by French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
Mbappe missed a penalty 28 minutes into the game. He won the penalty after being brought down by Noussair Mazraoui in the box.
Morocco held the match to a goaless draw until half-time, though it was only a matter of time before France’s relentless pressure paid off.
Friday’s quarter-final in Los Angeles between Spain and Belgium would determine the semifinal fixture for France.
