INEC commences distribution of sensitive materials ahead of Saturday elections in Ekiti

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive materials ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election, holding on Saturday June 20, 2026.

A series of by-elections for senatorial and house of reps positions in Ekiti will also be conducted on Saturday.

INEC officials were at the Central Bank office in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Thursday, sorting sensitive materials to be conveyed to the 16 local government areas of the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti state, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, assured of smooth and timely arrival of materials to their respective destinations, noting that the sorting process had been hitchfree.

INEC had earlier stated that the number of registered voters in the state increased from 987,647 in 2023 to 1,059,360 in 2026.

The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, had also noted on Wednesday, that the number of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected had risen from 958,052 in 2023 to 1,028,929 in 2026, representing a collection rate of 97.0 percent, and 97.1 percent of registered voters.

This was disclosed after the commission said that collection of PVCs ahead of the governorship election had been successfully concluded.

Following consultations with stakeholders at a meeting in Ado-Ekiti, the PVC collection exercise which was originally scheduled to end on June 11 2026, was further extended to June 14 2026 by INEC.
