Edo APC senatorial primaries: Oshiomhole, Ikpea secure tickets, as Ize-Iyamu loses to Ogbeide-Ihama
Former governor of Edo State and senator representing Edo North senatorial district, Adams Oshiomhole, and his counterpart Joe Ikpea, representing Edo Central senatorial district, have been elected unopposed as candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in their respective districts, in view of the forth coming 2027 general election.
In a similar development, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama emerged winner at the Edo South senatorial district primary, amid conflicting reports from the camp of his opponent, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who claimed to have emerged winner of the primary.
The senator currently representing the district at the Red Chamber, Neda Imasuen, also described the exercise as a sham, alleging it was designed to favour a preferred aspirant.
According to the results announced at Urhokpota Hall in Benin City, by the Chairman of APC National Assembly Primary Election, Muhammed Ajana, Ogbeide-Ihama secured victory in the seven local government areas of Edo South, after polling 27,154 votes.
His opponents, Neda Imasuen secured 13,580 votes, while Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu got 6,785 votes.
The elections in Edo North and Central were reported to be hitch-free as they saw no contest against the incumbents.
Speaking on the Edo South results at Urhokpota, Ajana said: “There are seven local governments that make up the Edo South Senatorial District. We have heard from the Returning officers from the seven local government areas.
“From the collation, the cumulative result we have for Edo South Senatorial District is this; Ogbeide-Ihama with 27,154 votes, Imasuen with 13,580 votes and Ize-Iyamu with 6, 785.
“This is the total reflection of what has transpired from the ward level to the local government and the Edo South senatorial district collation centre.
“With this we await further directives from the National Secretariat. We have done our best by collating the results which is our mandate, to collate the results and send them to the National Secretariat.”
