Jordan hold Super Eagles to 2–2 draw in international friendlies, as Iwobi incurs red card

The Jordanian national team held the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 2–2 draw in an international friendly played on Tuesday night at the Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey.

The match concludes Nigeria’s international friendlies, as Jordan, currently ranked 64th in the world, stunned the Eagles with an early lead in the 17th minute.

Mousa Tamari converted a free-kick to give the Jordanian side a lead. Though Nigeria tried equalizing six minutes later with a goal by Raphael Onyedika, the goal was eventually disallowed.

Moses Simon who captained the Nigerian side gave the Eagles an equalizer at the 25th minute, while Emmanuel Fernandez a Glasgow Rangers forward gave Nigeria a 2–1 lead just before half time.

The second half saw an intense game, with Jordan’s resilience eventually paying off in the 77th minute, as Mohammad Al Dahoud leveled the score in favour of Jordan.

Nigeria tried to regain advantage, leading to further intensity in the match, and eventually landing Alex Iwobi a red card. The match ended in a 2–2 draw.

There is a greater chance of the Super Eagles not partaking in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the outcome of their petition against DR Congo still lingering.

Jordan on the other hand would be appearing at the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 2026, after securing a 3–0 away victory over Oman to qualify for the tournament on June 5, 2025.
