Turaki-led PDP faction holds emergency meeting in Abuja

The Tanimu-Turaki led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently engaged in an emergency National Executive Committee meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Bauchi governor’s lodge in Abuja.

The meeting led by the Tanimu Turaki National Working Committee, and the Adolphus Wabara’s board of trustees would be the third this week.

Issues under deliberation centred around the party, with the planned national convention of the Abdulrahman Mohamed-led caretaker committee and other germane issues taking centre stage in the discussion.

The Turaki-led group had said in an earlier meeting held on Wednesday that they were open to reconciliation, stating that a truce talk was ongoing with the Wike-aligned faction.

The caretaker committee of the PDP led by Abdulrahman Mohamed which is aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had also said they were open to reconciliation while listing some conditions, including holding the planned national convention scheduled for  March 29 and 30, 2025.

Those present at the emergency meeting include Turaki, Wabara, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, Prof Jerry Gana, among others.

Turaki noted that the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde sent in an apology for being absent, adding that the Governor of Bauchi was on his way.

Assuring that the leadership was working to ensure the party’s logo on the 2027 ballot, Turaki said members would be updated on the reconciliation efforts in a closed-door meeting.
