According to reports, nine soldiers and a policeman were allegedly killed on Tuesday in a deadly ambush by armed gunmen in Shanga local government area of Kebbi State.

Eye witnesses said the incident occurred in Giro Masa community, as security operatives were unexpectedly attacked by gunmen believed to have been operating in the area for some time.

The security operatives were said to have tracked the gunmen to a construction company yard following a tip-off from residents, when they were ambushed.

While military authorities are yet to comment formally on the incident, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has visited the mortuary as well as the accident and emergency unit of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where victims of the attack were conveyed.

The Governor who reiterated his administration’s commitment to tightening security in the state, proceeded for an on-the-spot assessment of the scene of the attack.
