NNPCL confirms discovery of new oil well
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has confirmed the successful exploration and discovery of a new oil well Awodi-07, in the shallow offshore western Niger Delta, while congratulating Chevron Nigeria Limited on the successful appraisal and exploration.
This was contained in a press statement dated January 26 and signed by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd.
The outcome was described by NNPCL as a notable milestone for the Joint Venture, bearing testament to a strong operational collaboration between both partners.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, appraising the development, commended Chevron Nigeria Limited for its accomplishment.
“The success of the Awodi-07 well further reinforces the strength of the NNPC Ltd/CNL Joint Venture and our shared commitment to responsibly growing Nigeria’s hydrocarbon reserves.
“This achievement aligns squarely with our strategic priorities of increasing production, enhancing national energy security, and delivering sustainable value for the Nigerian people,” he said.
The Executive Vice President, Upstream, NNPC Ltd, Mr. Udy Ntia, describing the outcome noted: “This discovery underscores the importance of disciplined exploration programmes, strong partnerships, and the positive impact of the reforms introduced under the Petroleum Industry Act.
“We look forward to working closely with Chevron Nigeria Limited to mature this opportunity and progress it towards timely development and monetization.”
The press statement indicated NNPCL’s partnership with Chevron Nigeria Ltd in the exploration of several oil and gas fields in the Niger Delta region, with NNPCL holding a 60 percent interest while Chevron holds 40 percent.
The company said activities concerning the Awodi-07 well were carried out safely and efficiently, in strict compliance with approved operational and regulatory standards.
The Awodi-07 well which was drilled as part of the Joint Venture, commenced in late November 2025, concluding in mid-December 2025.
