Nigerians spend over N1.5tn on beer, drinks in nine months

Report has shown that major breweries in Nigeria generated a total revenue of N1.54tn from the sale of beer and non-alcoholic drinks in the first nine months of 2025, showing a rough estimate of what Nigerians spent on drinks for the period under review.

The financial statements of the companies revealed a collective performance record by Nigerian Breweries Plc, International Breweries Plc, and Champion Breweries Plc for the period, which was mainly driven by the sales of beer.

Nigerian Breweries Plc recorded a net revenue of N1.05tn for the period, with cost of sales standing at N631.23bn and profit at N415.15bn. The profit after tax stood at N85.51bn after accounting for diverse marketing expenditure.

International Breweries Plc with market bases in Nigeria and the West African region, generated N472.57bn as revenue and a profit after tax of N57.83bn.

Champion Breweries Plc recorded N21.44bn as revenue for the period under review and a profit after tax of N2.05b, placing the combined revenue of the three major companies at N1.54tn.

Based on the records, the Nigerian market tends to benefit from strong brand loyalty and distribution networks despite increasing cost of production, according to experts, who also noted that firms were improving efficiency to meet rising demands.
