PDP sets up 13-member screening committee for national convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has unveiled a 13-member National Convention Screening Committee to assess aspirants for national offices ahead of the partyās 2025 National Convention, slated for November 15-16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Chairman of the National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC) and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
The committee which will oversee the screening exercise scheduled to take place on Tuesday October 28, will be chaired by Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), a former Ondo State governorship candidate, who will be assisted by Mohammed L.S. Diri (SAN) as Deputy Chairman, Barr. Asue Ighodalo as Secretary, Jacob Otorkpa as Deputy Secretary, while Chinedu Nwachukwu will serve as Administrative Secretary.
Other members of the committee include: Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Chief Mrs. Aduke Maina, Iyom Josephine Anenih, Achike Udenwa, Haj. Maryam Inna Ciroma, HM. Zainab Maina and HM. Felix Hassan Hyat.
The statement noted that membership selection was a reflection of the partyās commitment to transparency, integrity, and internal democracy.
The statement read in part: āThe NCOC notes and expects that the exemplary conduct and strict adherence to rules and regulations during this very crucial assignment will justify the confidence reposed by the Party in members of the Committee.ā
The statement assured of fairness and impartiality in the process, in order to promote democracy within the party, in view of the 2027 general election.
āThis exercise is crucial in ensuring that only credible, competent, and loyal members emerge to steer the affairs of our great party,ā it added.
recall that Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court Abuja has fixed October 31 2025, to rule on a suit seeking to halt the 2025 PDP National Convention, on the grounds of alleged violations of the partyās rules.
The suit was filed by three aggrieved members of the party;Ā Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP Chairman), Amah Abraham Nnanna (Abia PDP Chairman), and Turnah George (PDP Secretary, South-South).
The judge had on Tuesday October 21, during proceedings, reiterated his earlier order directing all parties to maintain the status quo regarding the planned convention.
