US revokes visas of foreigners who celebrated Charlie Kirk’s assassination
The US State Department said on Tuesday that it has revoked the visas of six persons who celebrated the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The State Department said this in a series of X posts (formerly Twitter), identifying the six persons involved to hail from Argentina, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Germany and Paraguay.
Some of the posts shared on X by the State Department suggested that the affected persons believed Kirk deserved to be killed.
The State Department wrote on X: “The United States has no obligation to host foreigners who wish death on Americans.
“The State Department continues to identify visa holders who celebrated the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk.”
A top State Department official had earlier vowed to take appropriate action against any visa-holders who had praised Kirk’s murder, while inviting people to send in any disturbing posts they come across.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio had also said days after Charlie Kirk’s murder that “visa revocations are under way.”
Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist was fatally shot on stage while speaking to students at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, for a Turning Point USA event, ‘The American Comeback Tour’.
The incident was reported to have taken place around 12:20 p.m. MDT (18:20 UTC), just 20 minutes after the event began, where a gunman now suspected to be Tyler Robinson currently under trial, shot Kirk using a rifle from the roof of a nearby campus building, in front of an audience of over 3,000 people.
Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident who has now been charged by State Prosecutors with aggravated murder was taken into custody after a two-day manhunt.
The revocations have been reported to be part of a wider crackdown on comments that celebrate Kirk’s assassination, as the Pentagon and Secret Service have sidelined service members or agents who posted negative comments about Kirk’s murder, while the Vice President of the United States JD Vance has encouraged people to put a call across to the employers of anyone found celebrating Kirk’s assassination.
