Israel strikes top Hamas leaders in Qatar 24hrs after Jerusalem terrorist attack
Israel has carried out an unprecedented attack in Qatar’s capital city of Doha against Hamas’ senior leadership members who, according to Israel, orchestrated the October 7 2023 massacre that claimed more than 1,200 Israeli lives.
The Tuesday attack occurred barely 24 hours after two armed terrorists opened fire on a commercial bus in Israel’s capital city of Jerusalem, resulting in the death of at least 6 persons, with over 20 persons sustaining both severe and minor injuries.
An X post from the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office read: “Today’s action against the top terrorist chieftains of Hamas was a wholly independent Israeli operation. Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it and Israel takes full responsibility.”
The post came in the wake of questions concerning the involvement of the United States in the operation which Israel has debunked. The United States confirmed that they were informed by Israel prior to the attack even though they had no part in the operation.
In a statement by Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the IDF said the strike was precise and targeted senior leadership of the Hamas Terrorist Organization responsible for the October 7 massacre.
“The IDF and ISA conducted a precise strike targeting the senior leadership of the Hamas Terrorist Organization. For years these members of the Hamas leadership have led the terrorist organization’s operations and directly responsible for the October 7 massacre, and have been orchestrating and managing the war against the State of Israel.
“Prior to the strike, measures were taken in order to mitigate harm to civilians, including the use of precise munitions and additional intelligence. The IDF and ISA will continue to operate with determination in order to defeat the Hamas terrorist organization responsible for the October 7 massacre,” the statement read.
In a response by the Qatari government, the Advisor to the Prime Minister of Qatar said the attack was a violation of international laws, posing a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris.
The statement read in part: “This criminal assault constitutes a blatant violation of all international laws and norms and poses a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents in Qatar.
“The Ministry affirms that the security forces, civil defense and relevant authorities immediately began addressing the incident and taking necessary measures to contain its repercussions and ensure the safety of residents and surrounding areas.”
It said further that the State of Qatar condemned the attack and would not tolerate such reckless behaviour from the State of Israel.
The total numbers of victims in the attack and the individuals involved are still speculative as of the time of filing this report.
